Saffron - the most sought after spice in the history
The Persians coloured their clothes with saffron. Alexander the Great, pitched his camp in Kashmir on a plain covered with purple Crocus and when he woke up the next day, he believed in witchcraft as the clothes of his warriors turned golden-yellow. In medievial Switzerland Basel's soldiers fought in the Saffron war.
