On the Tracks of Basels Guilds
Spice traders, painters of saints or soap makers: Masters of these and other professions were members of the Honourable Saffron Guild that was founded in the Middle Ages, just as the majority of the guilds. On the Saffron Stroll, you get to know a historic tradition that still exists nowadays. You will also find out what's behind the name o fhe restaurant Safran Zunft.
The tour starts at the impressive town hall at the market square and continues through the twisted alleyways of the Nadelberg and Heuberg areas. Our historian will show you magnificent guild houses and tell you interesting details about the lives of the craftsmen and traders from that time. The unhurried tour end at the restaurant Safran Zunft wher we will be glad to serve you an apero and a typical Basel guild feast.
